Overview

Buck by Popular Demand’s purpose is to highlight Black excellence through majorette dance. Complementing the dance competition will be a HBCU college fair and cultural exhibits that highlight the achievements of African Americans. We hope that your dancers will be enriched by these offerings.

Competition Categories

  • Combined Creative: all ages

  • Combined Stands: shall not exceed eighteen (18) years of age

Combined Walk-Thru

Walk-thru will be the first judged category. Each group will be given three (3) minutes to represent their team. During walk-thru, teams are to use the perimeter of the gym floor for the routine. The center of the gym floor may not be used. Any time over three minutes and 30 seconds (3:30) will result in a 10-point deduction.

Combined Creative

Each team will be given five minutes and thirty seconds (5:30) to celebrate black excellence from any era. This includes any creative theme from pre-emancipation (before slavery) through the present.

Props

During Creative, teams will be allowed to use any type of prop (humans included). Coaches, use this time to be as creative as possible, but please be aware that the routine maximum is five minutes and thirty seconds (5:30).

Maximum Time Deductions

Routines that exceed the allotted time will result in a 10-point deduction for every minute beyond five minutes and thirty seconds.

  • Example: A routine that is 5:31 minutes will receive a 10-point deduction, the same routine will receive an additional 10-point deduction at 6:31 minutes.

  • Participating teammates must not exceed 18 years of age.

  • Each team will dance to two (2) fast songs with each song being up to one minute and 30 seconds (1:30).

    • Teams will receive a list of potential songs to be used during Stand Battle no later than May 15, 2019.

  • Movement during the other team’s performance (taunting included) is strictly prohibited and will result in disqualification at the judge’s discretion.
